Little Mo's Nationals:
Andrei Volgin, the young up and comer from Tompkins Tennis, recently competed in the National Little Mo Tournament with impressive results. In the round of 16, Volgin beat Pierce Rollins from Tulsa, OK 2-6; 6-4; 6-4. In the quarter-finals, Andrei took out the #2 seed Roman Jachuck 7-6; 6-4. Volgin lost in the semi-finals to Tyler Zink 6-2; 6-2 but then beat the #1 seed Coby McCaig 6-4; 6-1 in the play-off to receive 3rd place.
According to Volgin, " I have been training very hard and was determined to win this National Little Mo. I beat the #1 and #2 seeds and got 3rd place so overall that is good."
"Andrei Volgin is one of the most enthusiastic juniors when it comes to strength and conditioning," Sandy Tompkins states. "I really enjoy working with him because he loves to train hard and genuinely gets excited about running sprints and lifting weights."
According to Volgin's coach Clif Awuy, "Andrei has been focused on point strategy and hitting his strengths into the opponent's weaknesses. Because Andrei is spending more time in this area of his game he is controlling more points and successful in keeping his opponent's off balance."
