Tompkins Tennis would like to congratulate Giuliana Olmos, Sylvia Li, and Katya Vasilyev for their recent performances on a National and International level.
In International play, Giuliana Olmos was playing at the 31st Argentina Cup, a Grade 2 International tournament in Mar del Plata Argentina. In the first round, Giuliana had a solid 7-6, 6-3 win over the number #2 ranked player in Croatia Katja Milas. In the second round Giuliana had her most impressive win over the #1 seed and 29th internationally ranked junior in the world Akiko Omea from Japan 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
On a National level, Sylvia Li and Katya Vasilyev played some outstanding tennis finishing 4th and 5th respectively in the girls 18s division at the USTA National Open in Honolulu, Hi.
Sylvia’s tournament started with comfortable wins over Charlotte Spassoff and Vynnie Kong 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-0 respectively. With her confidence at a high level Sylvia put together two upset wins over 6th seed Julia Blakeley 6-1, 6-1 and 3rd seed Gabrielle Devin 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.
Katya’s tournament started with a tough win over Akiko Okuda 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 before a more comfortable win over Catherine Nguyen 6-2, 6-2. In the round of 16, Katya had a great win over 4th seed and Norcal rival Kelly Chui 6-3, 6-4. After a three set loss to 8th seed Jacqueline Crawford, Katya put together three very impressive wins to capture the consolation draw. Katya first beat 6th seed Julia Blakeley 6-1, 6-4, then beat 1st seed Sarah Lee 7-6, 6-0, and in the consolation finals beat Nikki Sanders 6-4, 6-2.
